Multiple Awards Given to The Last Airbender!

February 27, 2011

Nearly sweeping the cermony this year, The Last Airbender received multiple Razzies at this years award ceremony.  In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, AIRBENDER also “won” Worst ScreenplayWorst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D, and Worst Supporting Actor in Jackson Rathbone.

It turns out, there is a way to make The Last Airbender palatable; riffing.

Thats right, the guys at Rifftrax.com (formerly MST3K), have released a rifftrax you can play along with The Last Airbender. You can forget how terrible the movie is, while you’re dying of laughter. The rifftrax for Last Airbender can be purchased here.

Become the Avatar!

November 11, 2010

Heads up to all you Avatards out there, who may be excited about The Last Airbender’s DVD & Blu-ray release next week on the 16th. If you head on over to BecomeTheAvatar.com, you can upload a personal photo of yourself, friend, or family member and become the Avatar, to be printed as a poster, DVD or Blu-ray cover. Doing so will also net you a $5 off coupon good towards the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack!

As you may have guessed, we are back from our hiatus…somewhat. Many aspects of our personal and professional lives have drawn our attention away from the Avatar fandom these last few months, but expect us to be a little more active over the months to come. Thanks for the support.

REVIEW The Last Airbender

July 10, 2010

Lost in translation. What better phrase to sum up M. Night Shyamalan’s efforts to bring the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series to the silver screen? It has been three and a half years since Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies announced the hiring of  Oscar nominated director M. Night Shyamalan to produce the live action adaptation, much to the trepidation of Avatar fans worldwide. While Night’s early Hollywood career met with substantial box office success and critical acclaim, his two most recent films (and a third to be released in 2008) were received far less favorably. Many were beginning to justifiably doubt his directing talents, and still more wondered if he had the skills necessary to do justice to the Peabody award winning modern classic. We’ve been following this film since production finally began to ramp up in the fall of 2008; covering every news item, every photo snapped, every interview given, every trailer screened, and we were even lucky enough to have a chance to interview Night himself back in March earlier this year. The cast and crew said the right things, the costumes and sets looked fantastic, the special fx wowed us, and Night had a lot of enthusiasm for the show & seemed to get what made Avatar great. Aside from the much publicized casting issues, things seemed to have been progressing most auspiciously. I was lucky enough to have been invited to the film’s premiere at the Lincoln Center in New York City on June 30th. Having given myself a few days deliberation, I believe I’m ready to submit a critique of the film that will hopefully keep gut-reaction hyperbole to a minimum. (more…)

Airbender Opens With $16.35 Million!

July 2, 2010

Playing on approximately 4,600 screens, The Last Airbender has scored the 5th highest-grossing Thursday opening ever with an estimated $16.35 million! The estimated total also includes $3 million the film earned from midnight screenings, which was the highest-grossing midnight launch of any non-sequel film of the summer. Seems like Airbender is on track for a very respectable opening weekend indeed.

The Wait Is Over

June 30, 2010

Tonight’s the big night for Avatar fans lucky enough to live in the US, as The Last Airbender finally hits theaters nationwide at midnight in 2D & 3D! Reviews are already beginning to roll in from advance screenings, and suffice to say things aren’t looking pretty. I will be at the premiere in New York City tonight covering the event! Expect videos from the red carpet, and my in-depth review of the film to pop-up over the course of the 4th of July weekend. Thank you all so much for your support, and be sure to see the film this weekend to judge M. Night Shyamalan’s live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender for yourself.

Princess Azula Revealed At Last

June 27, 2010

Some of you may have seen a rogue screenshot floating around the tubes with some surprising news, well it’s true.  The folks over at Paramount have released The Last Airbender‘s final credit sheet, revealing everyone’s favorite lightning bending psychotic at last: 21-year-old Summer Bishil! Ms. Bishil’s credits include roles in Hannah Montana, Return to Halloweentown, Crossing Over, and the recently canceled CBS medical drama Three Rivers. In 2007, she was picked by Variety as one of their Top 10 actors to watch. Ms. Bishil was also nominated for the best actress Spirit Award for her role in the film Towelhead.
